Updating a previous post with some encouraging news. The University of Toronto's Downtown Recovery Project has updated their measurement & methodology to better reflect our downtown geography and dynamics. As a result, the amount of activity they found is actually HIGHER than previously reported (67% of 2019 levels as opposed to 37% as previously reported).
The Portland Metro Chamber released a similar study in August which found that, in July, Portland had the HIGHEST monthly total in more than three years, which was 65% of the number of pedestrians downtown in July 2019. This is clearly shows improvement in foot traffic downtown!
Both studies analyze cellphone data to count the number of people in a specified area and time period. Learn more & get the facts at these stories:
